Frankovka


Characteristics...

Old red Austrian variety, known also as Lemberger, that flourishes on the slopes of Znojmo area in Moravia region. Fruit are dark, almost black, medium size and spicy. When turned into wine exhibits dark ruby, sometimes violet-ish color and smells like blackberry. It can be pretty acidic and has substantial tannins but when matured properly turns into smooth, fruity and spicy red wine with hints of cinnamon and blackberries.
Recommended for roasted meat, game dishes, duck and goose specialties as well as spicy vegetable dishes, ripening cheese varieties, well seasoned pasta and even pizza.
